Allotments provision in Great Burstead and South Green

Status as of 2nd November 2011:

The Great Burstead and South Green Village Council has for some time been actively exploring the possibility of leasing land for the purposes of creating allotments for use by the local community.

A number of sites had been under consideration with the Village Council approaching a total of 3 landowners to see if an agreement could be reached for the use of their land for this purpose. However, they have all subsequently declined to lease land to the Village Council. The most recent of these sites was in Kennel Lane, but a letter recently received from the land owner in question has now indicated that unfortunately they have decided not to lease the land to the Village Council for allotment use.

While this outcome is disappointing, with a lot of time and effort having been spent in trying to reach a successful conclusion to this matter, the Village Council is not currently pursuing alternative sites. They would though be interested to hear from any residents who might know of available land that could be used for allotments. Anybody that thinks that they might be able to help should contact the Village Clerk, Martin Ainscough on 01245 472468 or clerkofgbsg@hotmail.com

The Parish Paths Partnership (P3) update - July 2010

The Parish Paths Partnership (known as P3) helps to maintain and improve local footpaths, bridleways and byways. It is supported by Essex County Council who provide full training, resources and equipment. Within the Parish there are quite a number of rural footpaths the most northerly being within Mill Meadows. To the south east a number of paths extend behind Noak Hill Road and Great Burstead towards and across the countryside to Barleylands. It is then possible to link up to paths and bridleways that extend across the countryside north west of Cray’s Hill across towards Ramsden Bellhouse and return to Outwood Common Road or the vicinity of St. Peter’s School in Coxes Farm Road.

A number of volunteers came forward following articles which were published in 'The Mole' in 2009 and a number of projects in collaboration with officers from Essex County Council team. The work involved the installation of way mark posts at a number of locations on footpaths in the vicinity of Great Burstead accross to Barleylands and the River Crouch in the south of the Parish plus the renewal of a footbridge in the south of the parish. Further works are planned for this year.

Our previous footpath officer did an excellant job of surveying the network of public rights of way within the parish and leading our volunteer team but unfortunately has had to step down.

We therefore have a vacancy and we'd like to hear from volunteers who would like to take on the role.

We are always pleased to hear from others who are interested in asisting with projects like installing gates, replacing small bridges and generally improving these public rights of way. In return, you’ll make new friends, have the opportunity to work outdoors, be physically active and improve your local environment.
